where have all the ‘womanist/feminist’ sons gone?

Published by jess_johnson at 10:09 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

this is not women’s work. not a kate bush or maxwell song (twas good to see him on BET, though).

i’m looking for the sons of all advanced sexual politicians…

i have only been permitted to discuss this in a blog post, because bell hooks validated it. sadly, i am among those who have fed and do feed into the dichotomy this movement [unintentionally?] erected: love vs. work. i work as hard as i possibly can to forget love exists. to remember is to remind myself that i have yet to experience it in relational human to human terms. love for my family and friends? OF COURSE. Agape love? OF COURSE! you don’t know all the ways the Lord has worked every ‘it’ out for me!

blame it on the fact that i’m reading Communion right now, but even so, it just clicked for me that that’s this hetero’s problem. i have yet to stumble upon the well-trained son(s) who sat at the feet of their avant garde parental units–who, of course, successfully resisted the wiles of academia–and went on to teach their offspring, their daughters AND their sons to receive knowledge in an ever so passive pedagogical manner as the footstool implies. ;-)

these are the young men quietly erring ‘amen’ when the big brother kevin powells and great auntie toni cade bambaras speak of the folly of role assignments and the ’sexist in me’. the last time i had a crush on someone was at 16. the first and last time i had a…what do you call those…a um…

er…i think it’s a boy…friend? yes. that was 14. does that even count??

until i meet your sons…the old (entirely unobtainable for various reasons) men and all their friends win…
